If you’ve spent any time on social media lately, you’ve probably seen this creamy, spicy, ultra-comforting viral Turkish pasta making the rounds, thanks to creators like Anna Paul.

This cozy, flavor-packed pasta dish is inspired by the traditional flavors of Turkish manti (Turkish dumplings), but reimagined into a quick, weeknight-friendly version.
We’re taking the viral version and lightening it up by using ground turkey instead of ground beef. But don’t worry – it still has the tangy yogurt sauce and sizzling spiced butter sauce that this dish is famous for.
What is Turkish Pasta?
Turkish pasta is a simplified take on Turkish dumplings, traditionally served with garlicky yogurt and a paprika butter drizzle.
Instead of stuffing dumplings, this version uses pasta, making it much faster and perfect for busy weeknights.
At its core, Turkish pasta is a layered pasta dish:
- A savory ground beef or ground meat mixture cooked with spices (we’re lightening it up with ground turkey instead).
- A creamy garlicky yogurt made with Greek yogurt.
- A rich butter sauce infused with spices like sweet paprika, pul biber, or aleppo pepper (we’re taking a shortcut and using red pepper flakes).

The Main Dish

How to Make Turkish Pasta
Cook the Pasta
First, boil and drain the pasta and set it aside.
Make the Ground Meat
Start by sauteing a diced onion in a little bit of olive oil. Then, add the ground turkey and brown it in the pan, using a wooden spoon to break it up into smaller pieces.
Stir in the onion powder, tomato paste, paprika, cumin and salt and set it aside.

Make the Yogurt Sauce
In a small bowl, combine the yogurt, garlic, lemon juice and salt. You can use minced garlic or – for more authentic flavor – grate the garlic cloves using a microplane.

Make the Butter Sauce
Melt the butter in a small saucepan. Then, stir in the chopped mint, paprika, red pepper flakes and salt.
Assemble the Dish
Layer the components of the dish like this: place the pasta into a serving bowl. Top with the yogurt, then the ground turkey, then the butter sauce.
Garnish with cherry tomatoes and fresh parsley, if desired.

Variations
The protein. Go the traditional route with ground beef or try alternatives like ground chicken or lamb.
Make it vegetarian. Skip the meat and use mushrooms, lentils or try meatless crumbles.
Adjust the heat. Make it spicier or milder to suit your preference by adjusting the amount of red pepper flakes in the butter sauce.
Gluten-free option. Use your favorite gluten-free pasta instead of regular pasta.

Storage Instructions
For best results, store the individual components of this dish separately in the refrigerator. Reheat in the microwave and re-assemble the leftovers for the next meal.
If everything is already mixed together, simply cover it over with plastic wrap and store the whole thing in the refrigerator.

Helpful Tips
- Cook pasta properly: Salt your water well and cook until al dente. This helps the pasta hold up under the sauces.
- Try some curry: Although traditional Turkish pasta does not use curry powder, Anna Paul’s viral version does. Try and see what you prefer.
- Layer for best flavor: Don’t mix everything together – layer the pasta, yogurt sauce, meat sauce, and finish with the butter drizzle for that authentic feel.
- Grate the garlic: For the most authentic flavor, use a microplane to grate the garlic cloves. If you don’t have a grater, mince it finely using a sharp knife.
- Perfect your yogurt sauce: If you find that your yogurt sauce is too thick, thin it with a little extra lemon juice or a splash of water.
- Make it sizzle: Finish your butter sauce over high heat briefly to bloom spices like sweet paprika and red pepper flakes. This enhances aroma and flavor.
- Garnish with freshness: Topping the dish with fresh cherry tomatoes and freshly chopped parsley provides a nice contrast to an otherwise rich dish.
