If you’ve ever tried Raising Cane’s bread, you understand the obsession. And if you haven’t, let me just say, it’s the most addictive bread you’ll ever have.
I didn’t believe it at first, either! But after one try, you will be hooked. The thick slices of Texas toast are slathered in garlic butter and grilled until golden brown. And they’re the perfect accompaniment to a Cane’s meal.
So if you don’t live near a Raising Cane’s and you can’t satisfy the craving easily, I’ve got this super easy copycat recipe for you!
According to Mini Me, this Raising Cane’s bread recipe tastes as good – maybe even better – than the real thing!
And she should know. She is an unofficial member of the Raising Cane’s cult – a legion of fans of this popular fast food restaurant that sticks to a basic but delicious menu of crispy chicken fingers and tasty sides.
In addition to Cane’s chicken fingers, secret sauce and crinkle-cut fries, their bread is legendary.
What makes Raising Cane’s Bread so special?
The secret to Cane’s bread is the actual type of bread they use. It’s a sesame pull-apart bread. It is ridiculously soft and delicious on its own, and when you slather it with garlic butter and grill it, it’s just amazing.
If you do a quick Google search, you’ll see that a company named Klosterman’s makes the bread. No doubt, it’s this particular bread that gives Cane’s famous bread its unique flavor.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find Klosterman’s bread in a regular grocery store. I was, however, able to find Klosterman’s bread on Amazon. Yay, right? But no.
The thing is, you have to buy it in bulk. And unless you want to buy 8 loaves of bread at a time and store them in your freezer (like I did), you’ll have to find the next best thing to Klosterman’s.
So, you’ll want to look for thick-sliced white bread at your local grocery store. Sometimes it will be labeled “Texas toast bread”. But don’t buy frozen Texas toast! The frozen stuff will already be seasoned, which is not what we want.
An even better option would be an unsliced loaf of white bread that you can slice yourself.
Ingredients for Raising Cane’s Bread Recipe
It only takes a few simple ingredients to make this copycat Raising Cane’s Texas toast. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Thick-sliced or unsliced white bread or Texas toast-style bread. Do not use frozen Texas toast, as this type of bread will already come seasoned.
- Butter. Make sure it’s at room temperature so you can spread it easily.
- Garlic powder
- Salt
Note: If you have garlic salt, you can simply use 1 teaspoon of it instead of using 1/2 tsp of garlic powder and 1/2 tsp of salt.
How to Make Raising Cane’s Bread Recipe
Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
Make sure your butter is at room temperature, and then mix it together with the garlic powder and salt in a small mixing bowl. Now, spread the garlic butter onto one side of each slice of bread.
Place the bread, buttered side down, onto the hot griddle. While the bread is grilling, carefully butter the side that’s facing up.
Once the underside becomes a nice golden brown color, flip it over until the other side browns. Keep a close eye that the bread doesn’t get too brown.
According to my resident expert, Mini Me, Raising Cane’s bread is a light golden color, not a deep golden brown.
How to Serve Raising Cane’s Bread

3. Nashville Hot Chicken: This delicious bread is perfect for cooling down your taste buds from the heat of Nashville hot chicken or any other dish that has a little bit of spice. Find my Nashville hot chicken tender recipe here.
4. Sandwiches. Pile pulled chicken or pork in between two pieces of Cane’s bread for an amazing barbecue sandwich! Layer deli meats, cheeses, mayo and Dijon mustard for creative panini sandwiches.
5. Barbecue: Nothing is more classic than barbecued meats and Texas toast! Serve Cane’s bread any time you’re grilling ribs, chicken or pork. It’s a great side dish when served with buttered corn, green salad and all the fixins.
Isn’t Raising Cane’s Texas Toast the same as Garlic Bread?
Texas Toast, although similar to garlic bread, is not the same.
Texas toast starts with soft white bread that’s soft on both sides, and buttered on both sides. Garlic bread is typically made with bread that is crusty on one side and soft on the other.
Garlic bread is also usually only buttered on one side.
How to Store Raising Cane’s Bread
If you have any leftover pieces of Cane’s bread, the best way to store them is to wrap them in aluminum foil and place them into the refrigerator.
You could also seal them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They’ll stay fresh for days.
How to Reheat Raising Cane’s Bread
To reheat, place the pieces of bread on a baking sheet and warm them in the oven or air fryer at 350 degrees for 2-3 minutes. This should restore their toasty exterior.
