Ranch dressing is the best dressing, and ranch dressing from Chili’s is one of my favorites!
This super easy Chilis ranch recipe lets us have that amazing restaurant flavor right in our own kitchens. Use it as a dipping sauce for chips, French fries and crispy chicken tenders or as a dressing on your favorite salads.
I am someone who always has homemade ranch dressing in the fridge. It’s my go-to condiment when I want to cool down the spicy flavors of food. I’ll spread ranch dressing onto sandwiches, dip fresh vegetables in it and add it to other dips for added tanginess and flavor.
And making your own ranch dressing at home is easy!
Skip the fresh herbs and use dried herbs to make things quick and simple. Trust me, it’ll taste just like the restaurant version.

How to Make Chili’s Ranch Dressing
It couldn’t be easier to get this dressing to come out just like Chili’s restaurant.
Simply place your mayo, sour cream, buttermilk and pickle juice into a mason jar or other container with a tight-fitting lid. Now add the dried herbs, seal the jar and shake shake shake.
If you don’t have a sealable container, use a blender or food processor, or simply whisk the ingredients together vigorously.
However you do it, the idea is to combine the ingredients vigorously so that there aren’t any small lumps left over and your dressing is the perfect consistency.
How to Serve Chili’s Ranch Dressing
1. Pasta Salad Dressing: Toss cooked, cooled pasta with ranch dressing, cherry tomatoes, sliced olives, diced bell peppers, and cubes of cheese for a refreshing side dish.
2. Dipping Sauce: Use ranch dressing as a dip for raw vegetables like carrots, celery sticks, bell pepper slices, and broccoli florets. Dip your chicken wings and chicken strips in it, and try dipping your favorite pizza in it too! Ranch dressing is also a great alternative to ketchup for savory fries or even sweet potato fries.
3. Main Dishes: Use ranch dressing as a marinade for chicken breasts or pork chops to infuse them with moisture and flavor before grilling or baking. Or, mix ranch dressing with breadcrumbs, cheese, and herbs to create a filling for stuffed chicken breasts. And don’t forget to try it in my Chipotle Ranch Chicken Burritos!
4. Dips and Appetizers: Mix ranch dressing into Buffalo chicken dip instead of blue cheese dressing, and try drizzling it over loaded potato skins for a fun game day treat.
Can you make this Chili’s Ranch Recipe without buttermilk?
If you really want this ranch dressing to taste like the real thing, you should use buttermilk. The recipe only calls for 2 tablespoons, but they make all the difference in getting that tangy flavor.
If you don’t have buttermilk on hand, here are some substitutes. These measurements are substitutes for one cup of buttermilk:
- One cup of milk + one tablespoon of lemon juice. This is the most widely accepted buttermilk substitute.
- One cup of sour cream + 1/4 cup of water. Since the sour cream is already sour, we’re just using the water to thin it out until it’s the consistency of buttermilk. Add the water a little at a time, because you may not need the entire 1/4 cup.
- One cup of Greek yogurt.
