What is Bubble Up Pizza?
Bubble up pizza uses canned biscuits instead of pizza dough to form the crust.
During baking, the biscuits “bubble up” through the toppings, resulting in a soft, pillowy interior with cheesy, saucy pockets that taste like a cross between regular pizza and one of your favorite casseroles.
Unlike traditional pizza, you don’t cut bubble up pizza into slices. Instead, you serve it with a large spoon or spatula and eat it with a fork.
The best part? You can customize it with all your favorite toppings just like you would with traditional pizza.

Ingredients
- Canned biscuits. Look for regular sized buttermilk biscuits (not Grands).
- Pizza sauce. Grab your favorite store bought sauce or try my homemade recipe. Be sure you’re using pizza sauce and not pasta sauce, as sauces like marinara might result in a watery casserole.
- Italian sausage. Hot or sweet sausage works in this recipe. I use hot Italian turkey sausage.
- Mozzarella cheese
- Onion

How to Make Bubble Up Pizza
Brown the Sausage
Start by dicing up your onion. Add it to a pan with the sausage and cook until the sausage is browned and the onion is soft and translucent.
Use a wooden spoon to break the sausage up into smaller pieces.
Cut the Biscuits
Remove the biscuits from the tube and cut each one into quarters.

Assemble the Casserole
In a baking dish, layer your ingredients. Start with the biscuits, followed by the sauce, sausage and cheese.
Bake!
Now, pop your pizza into the oven to bake until it’s bubbly and golden brown. So easy!
