How to Build a Halloween Charcuterie Board
Prep the Ingredients
Having all of your components ready before you start creating will make the process much more enjoyable. Start by popping the goat cheese into the freezer for about 15-20 minutes. It will be easier to slice when it’s chilled.
After you do that, go ahead and cut the cheddar cheeses into cube and wedge shapes. Then, unwrap all of your components from their packaging so that they’re ready to use.
Last, remove the goat cheese from the freezer and carefully slice it into rounds.
Set down the Meats
With any cheese or charcuterie board, you want to start with an anchor, or something you’ll build everything else around.
For this board, we’re using the meats as our anchor. So, arrange the meats in a wavy line down the center of the board.

Support the Meats
Now that the meats are down, start placing other components of the board to support that wavy line shape. So place cheeses, fruits and small bowls next to the meats.
Be mindful to keep color variation and not put same colors next to each other.
Fill in Negative Space
The name of the game with any good charcuterie board is to fill in all the space! Use blueberries and extra candy corn to accomplish this.

Put on the Final Decorative Touches
Spread a little fruit jam on top of the camembert and top it with candy eyeballs, if desired. Then, arrange the plastic spiders on the board in spooky spots.
Use mini cookie cutters to create the word “BOO” out of yellow cheddar cheese, and put the letters over the white cheddar. And if you’d like, place little mini pumpkins around the board for extra flair.

Tips and Tricks
Choose a color theme
You don’t always have to do this, but for themed boards like this Halloween one, I like to choose a basic color scheme. For this board, I wanted to create a moody, spooky vibe. So I went with black, orange and green. Once you have a color theme, it’s easy to choose the components for the board.
Start with an “anchor”
To build the perfect Halloween charcuterie board, start by placing the largest item or items first. These are your “anchors”. Put down your cheeses, bowls and larger pieces of fruit before adding the smaller ingredients.
This gives you a basic framework to work with.
Use small bowls
Place small bowls around the board for things like fig jam, olives, nuts, candy or dips.
Once the bowls are in place, you can begin filling in the surrounding areas.
Create different textures
One of the secrets to a good charcuterie board is contrast. Combine creamy, crunchy, chewy, juicy and crisp ingredients.
Think creamy brie with crunchy crackers, chewy dried fruit with hard cheeses, and fresh fruit alongside salty meats.
The different textures make every bite more interesting.
Add Halloween decorations
This is where you can really have fun!
Scatter plastic spiders throughout the board or tuck them between the food. Add mini pumpkins, candy eyeballs, and other spooky decorations around the edges.

Use small cookie cutters
Small cookie cutters are a great way to transform ordinary cheese slices into Halloween shapes. Look for pumpkins, ghosts, bats or other spooky designs.
This is also a fun way to get kids involved in making the board.
Fill in negative space
Don’t worry if you have a few empty spots when you first arrange everything.
Fill those spaces with candy corn, grapes, nuts, crackers or other small snacks at the very end.
Think in groups
Instead of spreading every ingredient evenly across the board, group similar foods together. Place cheeses together, create a section for meats and make little clusters of fruit and candy.
You can also use equal parts sweet and savory ingredients if you want a balanced board.
Use room temperature cheese
For the best flavor and texture, allow your cheese to come to room temperature before serving. This is particularly important for creamy cheeses like brie and goat cheese.
However, don’t leave perishable foods sitting out for long periods of time.
Don’t overthink it
There are no strict rules for creating a Halloween board. Use different things you love and don’t worry about making everything perfect.
A great board should feel abundant and inviting rather than overly arranged.

Storing Leftovers
If you have leftovers, separate the food into categories before storing it. Cheese, meat, fruit, crackers and candy will all keep best when stored separately. I put everything into little sandwich bags. You can also wrap things in plastic wrap or place them in an airtight container.
Leftover crackers should be kept at room temperature in an airtight container or resealable bag so they stay crisp.
Candy can be stored separately at room temperature.
If you’re storing leftover cheese, meats or other perishable ingredients, refrigerate them accordingly.
