Cottage cheese chocolate mousse is a healthy dessert that satisfies serious chocolate cravings while helping you hit your protein goals.

We’re using very simple ingredients to create a rich, creamy, high-protein chocolate mousse with real chocolate flavor.
Unlike traditional chocolate mousse, which relies heavily on eggs and heavy cream, this version uses protein-rich cottage cheese as the main ingredient.
It’s really hard to believe that you’re eating cottage cheese when you taste it!
Ingredients
- Cottage cheese
- Unsweetened cocoa powder
- Honey
- Pure vanilla extract

How to make Cottage Cheese Chocolate Mousse
Strain the Cottage Cheese
This is an optional step. If you’re using full-fat cottage cheese, there shouldn’t be a lot of liquid to drain.
But if you want to do this step, put the cottage cheese into a fine mesh strainer and let any excess liquid drain out.
Blend the Ingredients
Place the cottage cheese, cocoa powder, honey and vanilla extract into the bowl of a food processor. Blend until completely smooth.
Chill the Mousse
Transfer the mousse into individual serving cups or one larger bowl.
Cover it with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least several hours or longer.

Serving Suggestions
I love this for a quick snack as much as for dessert. It really hits the spot when those sweet cravings creep in! Here are some of my favorite ways to enjoy this delicious dessert:
- Top with your favorite fresh fruit (I like using fresh berries)
- Add shaved chocolate or chocolate chips for a little extra indulgence
- Layer into parfaits with whipped cream
- Pair with crunchy toppings like granola for added texture

Variations
This high protein dessert is easy to customize based on your preferences and dietary needs.
- Low carb option: Use monk fruit or other sugar-free sweeteners to keep it low carb.
- Low fat option: Reach for low-fat cottage cheese to reduce some fat grams.
- Protein boost: Add a scoop of protein powder for extra protein.
- Flavor twists: Try almond or peppermint flavor extract instead of vanilla.
- Chocolate overload: Add chunks of a dark chocolate for some texture
- Sweetener swap: Swap out the honey for pure maple syrup, agave nectar or stevia.

Helpful Tips
- For the smoothest consistency, use a high speed blender, food processor or hand mixer. You won’t get the same results mixing by hand.
- Adjust the sweetness to suit your preference. For some, the measurements in the recipe card are enough to satisfy their sweet tooth. Others prefer a sweeter mousse. You do you!
- Choose creamy cottage cheese like small curd cottage cheese for the best texture.
- Chill before serving to enhance the creamy texture and flavor.
- Add a pinch of salt to intensify the deep chocolate flavor.

Storage Instructions
Store your mousse either covered with plastic wrap or in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Is Cottage Cheese Mousse Actually Good?
This healthy chocolate mousse has all the richness of traditional chocolate mousse, but with a much more nutritious profile. The texture is thick and creamy and it’s made with real cocoa for the true chocolate lover.
This mousse is also lower in sugar than traditional chocolate mousse.
Please note that some people find that they need more sweetness than what’s in this recipe. If you’re one of those people, go ahead and add a few drops of liquid stevia. This will sweeten things up without increasing the overall calories in the dessert.

How much protein is in this cottage cheese chocolate mousse?
This recipe makes four servings, each containing 13 grams of protein!
Why is my cottage cheese mousse runny?
Cottage cheese mousse with thicken as it chills. Be sure to refrigerate it for several hours before enjoying.
Another potential reason why your cottage cheese mousse is runny is that it wasn’t blended well enough. Using a high-speed blender or food processor will properly blend the ingredients. Avoid mixing by hand.
