Want to make cute Easter cookies but don’t want to spend hours decorating them? I’ve got you.
These adorable Peeps bunny sugar cookies are so easy and fun to create!
They start with my favorite sugar cookie recipe. It’s mildly sweet and there’s a little sour cream in there to make the batter really smooth and creamy. The sugar cookie dough is really easy to roll out and work with – great for beginners!
Then, we’re coating our cute little bunnies in colored sugars and piping their little eyes and noses with frosting. So cute!
Serve these bunny cookies at Easter parties, Easter brunch or include them in an Easter basket.
Ingredients for these Peeps Bunny Sugar Cookies
Here’s what you’ll need for my classic sugar cookie recipe:
- All purpose flour
- Salted butter. If you’re using unsalted butter, add 1/2 teaspoon of salt to this recipe.
- Granulated sugar
- Powdered sugar
- Eggs
- Sour cream
- Baking powder
- Vanilla extra
- Lemon zest
Here’s what you’ll need for the decorations:
- Bunny cookie cutter. I bought the cookie cutter that I use for Peeps cookies on Amazon. It’s the perfect bunny shape for Peeps.
- Sanding sugar. The most popular Peeps colors are yellow, blue and pink, so those are the sugar colors we’re using. You can often find sanding sugar, or sparkling sugar, in the grocery store. If you’re looking for specific colors though, you’ll have better luck at a craft store or on Amazon.
- Light corn syrup. This will serve as the “glue” to hold the colored sugars on the cookies.
- Black frosting. Save yourself the time and mess of dying royal icing black and buy black frosting already made.
- Disposable piping bag. Find this at a craft store or on Amazon.
- Wilton #3 decorating tip. We’ll use this to make the eyes and noses of our bunnies.
- Small paint brush, usually found at a craft store.
How to Make Peeps Bunny Sugar Cookies
Make the Sugar Cookie Dough
The best sugar cookie recipe starts with fluffy butter! Use a stand mixer to beat the butter, sugars, eggs, sour cream, vanilla and lemon zest together.
In a separate bowl, whisk the flour and baking powder together. Then, slowly beat the flour mixture into the wet ingredients until everything is just combined.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill it in the refrigerator. Chilled dough is much easier to work with.
Make the Bunny Shapes
Roll out your chilled dough on a floured surface and cut out the bunny shapes.
Carefully transfer the unbaked cookies to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake the Cookies
Bake the bunny cookies until they’re still pale on top but slightly browned on the bottom. Be sure to watch them carefully so that they don’t become too golden brown.
Then set the cookies onto a cooling rack.
Decorate the Cookies
Start by setting up the three colors of sugar sprinkles in individual bowls.
Then, paint each cookie with a layer of corn syrup. Now, press the cookie into the sanding sugar so that it sticks to the surface. Repeat this process with all of the cookies and set them onto a baking sheet or tray.
Fit a piping bag with a Wilton #3 tip and fill it with black frosting. Carefully pipe the eyes and nose of each bunny and let the frosting set.

Instructions
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat butter, sugars and lemon zest on medium speed until fluffy. Beat in the eggs, sour cream and vanilla until smooth, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. On low speed, add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and beat until just combined.
