Blood Orange Sparklers

Although I’d say I’m usually a wine drinker, I do love the occasional cocktail. A dirty martini before dinner at a steakhouse, a Manhattan at the bar during the cold winter months, a mimosa or Bloody Mary at brunch. One cocktail I’ll never forget was the Blood Orange Martini I had on my first date with my husband. We hadn’t made a reservation so we grabbed two open seats at the bar, ordered some drinks, eventually some food, and 5 hours later still found ourselves sitting there.

It was a good night, as they say. Now, whenever he takes me back to the that swanky restaurant, we purposely don’t make a reservation so that we can sit at the bar. And I always order a Blood Orange Martini. These Blood Orange Sparklers are a hybrid of that favorite cocktail and a mimosa.

What’s in these Blood Orange Sparklers

Three simple ingredients are all you need:

  • blood oranges
  • your favorite vodka
  • a good bottle of bubbly

Blood oranges are in season during the cooler months of the year, making this a great cocktail for the holidays and Valentine’s Day. You’ll get about a quarter cup of fresh juice out of one blood orange, enough for one or two cocktails, depending on how juicy you like it. The color of fresh blood orange juice is such a pretty shade of pinkish orange, it’s just gorgeous and festive.

Blood Orange Sparklers

I like this hybrid because I feel like I wouldn’t drink mimosas in the evening and I shouldn’t drink a martini during the day. Blood Orange Sparklers are your anytime cocktail, as fitting for brunch as they are for cocktail hour.

Then, simply add your favorite vodka and bubbly and enjoy. So easy. So yummy. If you have an extra orange, slice it up sprinkle each slice with some coarse sugar for a pretty and fancy garnish. Enjoy!
